I found a great article on another neocities site about remembering to use the internet rather than letting it use you. This is something I, like a lot of others, have been thinking about for the last few years, and I might write an article on the topic myself.
Wishing all my visitors a very Happy New Year :)
back to normal, .css tweaks
The site is back to the normal purple theme, which is only slightly gaudy :)
I had a great Christmas and I hope everyone else did, too!
I've tried to differentiate internal and external links. The external links are now blue and solid-underlined. That makes them more linky, right? Internal links are still golden and dotted-underlined (apart from in the nav bar where they're just gold). There are also matching glow-effects for the white titles! I'm not totally sure about them yet, but we'll see!
Now the about page has crucial information about me in the form of bumper stickers.
Are you enjoying the xmas theme? I have mixed feelings. It is truly dreadful. But it's kind of growing on me. I keep my decorations up in my house until Candlemas, but I think these might come down on Boxing Day. If I can disengage myself from the sofa. Dear website visitors, I hope you are all having a nice week, whatever your plans may be! xx
website tutorial... and it's beginning to look a lot like xmas
New page: how to make your own site :) It's not an indepth tutorial, more of a pep talk and a brief orientation. It really is so easy, though, especially with my excellent and free host, neocities! Whether you're yet to dip your toes into the webmaster waters or you're wondering if you still know how to make a site after years out of the game, I hope you consider giving it a go.
I haven't decorated my tree yet (it's up, and is ready-lit...) but here's a christmas theme for my site. Is it cute? Is it awful? Yes to both. Merry Christmas <3
more rainbows, new Stellaris empires
I'm adding rainbows everywhere. Yes, more everywhere than before. I'm insane; I can't be stopped. Apart from by the differences between block elements and inline elements and ugh omg when did html get so complicated. But I will not be bested! Mysterious span tags, the glue holding this site together. Or at least making it look so cute!
Now you can read about all my Stellaris empires on the Stellaris page - some of the friends and rivals of the Great Alarian Harmony.
RAINBOWS EVERYWHERE, revamped other page, new Fallout fanart page
Look at the rainbow line right here on the update! Pretty, right? I made them (with my husband's help) for the new-look other page. It's all colourful and square, but round! It looks edible! Apart from the Fallout box which looks spooky and radioactive!
I wish I could draw. I would use this talent entirely for fanart (hmm, kind of like my talent for writing). In the meantime (before I can level up and spend points on it I guess?), I love playing with dollmakers. Sometimes I get really into it and photoshop the hell out of them. It's fun! If you saw the new Dragon Age and Stellaris pages, you'll have already noticed this hobby of mine :) (Yes, I'm calling Stellaris a dollmaker for the purposes of this update.) And it's what I did with the Fallout dolls on the new Fallout fanart page.
I added some more fanart. I made the dolls a while ago, but now they have pretty frames :)
redone Stellaris page, image optimisation, new link
As threatened, I made the new page about the Great Alarian Harmony pretty. I might add my offbrand Klingons, plant priesthood and lazy lizards, too. But first, I will try to finish this campaign!
I added a new link on the creatively-titled links page to an article that made me realise that just because I can save absolutely every image as a beautiful lossless png, I don't have to. So I'm reacquainting myself, grudgingly, with my old nemesis, the jpeg, destroyer of pixel art. And saving a few megabytes out of the... 50GB neocities allows me... but it's the principle of the thing! I don't think it will make any difference to any visitor, whether in quality or loadspeed, but if you're out there on dialup still or attempting to browse this very not-optimised-for-mobile site that way, well, you're welcome!
new Dragon Age character page
Another character writeup, this time of Rina Tabris and Adaia Lavellan, my Dragon Age Warden and Inquisitor. More about Rina than Adaia for now, but honestly? I've never finished DA:I! The story is a super-condensed version of what will eventually become my DA:O novelisation and its even less finished sequels.
split about page, new Stellaris page
The latter page has a little mock-up of my very first site's header, with its glorious neon green Comic Sans marquee banner. Where is your god now? (Genuinely, I thought marquees had been deprecated, but apparently not!)
I did a little writeup of my Stellaris empire, the Great Alarian Harmony. Guess who's playing Stellaris again! I'll make it prettier some day, and I also intend to make pages for all my other game characters (is an empire a character? It feels like one!)
- 28/11/2021 thinking about websites
Changed the formatting on the new Here's To Those Who Still Believe page. I'm not going to say how many hours it took me to both decide what I was doing and then do it.
404 page, HTTWSB updates
The 404 page is semi-cute now. Not that I hope you ever end up there.
Added a few more Here's To Those Who Still Believe chapter titles to the new page. I have more, but I've stuck to what's thoroughly planned with no gaps, for now (if I really wanted people to see how the sausage was made, I'd be uploading the fic as I wrote it). But you get a partial preview of the partial preview! Exciting!
new FNV mod, new HTTWSB page
A Fallout: New Vegas mod I made for myself a while ago and only just got around to uploading: cleaner uniforms for the Followers. Not clean, mind you. You'll want the original mod for that.
tweak, quotes page
The biggest update yet: I added a very subtle text shadow to everything that didn't previously have one. It's like a whole new site, right?
A real update: a quotes page, in the other section :) This ended up mostly quotes about writing and creativity. Maybe they're broadly applicable, or maybe it only seems that way to a writer, but I hope you find them interesting regardless.
another webring, typos etc., css tweaks and CURSORS
I've joined the geekring! Two webrings is enough for me, unless I find one super fitting, like "rambling about your fallout fanfiction ring" (hey, maybe I should make one). This is definitely a geeky site :)
In all my updating fervour yesterday (well, today: I just haven't gone to bed yet) of course some typos slipped through. If you saw them... no you didn't...
In the cold light of day, as it were, I've gotten the frame version of this page to look a little better. Flex... div... it's all a mystery to me, but I should have eradicated the 2nd scrollbar for non-js users. You can enable js on here and see the fun stretchy version, too, but it's not necessary.
Finally fixed the last issues with the scrollbar in the frames version. Now the site should actually be centred no matter how you look at it. It's almost like they don't want scrollbars to be outside of the thing they scroll, wow. I've also rejiggled the nav slightly - now there's an "other" page that leads to the recipe page. In case you came back here halfway through baking and panicked.
I'm like a woman possessed. By her own spirit from 15 years ago, maybe. Now we have custom highlighting (I had no idea we could do text shadows in them, too, so you can even read it! How's that!) and custom cursors. Actually, this isn't my spirit from 15 years ago. I used to be so minimalist. It was always like, intuit where the cursor is - if you're cool enough to use my site. Now I wanted big tacky animated ones but I couldn't get them to work, so moderately tacky purple ones it is. Maybe I'll give in later and try something with js. With trails...
webring, tweaks, HTTWSB page, links page
I've joined the retronaut webring. It's been a very long time since I was part of a webring. I'd forgotten how fun those little previous, random, next buttons were. I've also tweaked the stylesheet a little. If I ever get one of those heart photo lockets I've always wanted, I'll have photos of my husband and my cats inside, but on the back I'll engrave three special letters: css.
No further progress on Here's To Those Who Still Believe, but I've spiffied up the page a little. A table! Wow!
Probably the last update of the day: links on the links page! To my fandom tumblrs and also to some useful programs :)
Finally wrote the first chapter of my WIP, Here's To Those Who Still Believe, as well as finished chapter 12. Now we're cooking with gas! Or with nuclear radiation I guess, 'cause this is the Mojave Wasteland.
fic progress, typo
Finished another chapter of my WIP, Here's To Those Who Still Believe, and corrected a typo on that page silently a few days ago. And here I announce my shame. Not only can I not spell, this whole update section is a big fat sham. Then again, maybe "realtionship" would be a good word. But maybe not to apply to the inherently faketionships of fanfiction.
Making steady progess on my WIP, Here's To Those Who Still Believe - another chapter done!
Finished another chapter of my WIP, Here's To Those Who Still Believe!
I finished another chapter of Here's To Those Who Still Believe. It's still WIP, and I'm looking forwards to the day I'll start uploading the whole thing.
I'm not great at updating this, there have been a bunch of tiny updates/tweaks. Today's is that I found another of my old vegetablearian.com layouts and added it to the about page :)
Added a recipe page and even more rainbows. You can never have too many rainbows, right?
layout tweaks, pages
Now my site is pretty much complete. It has multiple pages. I resisted the temptation to use frames. Maybe for a later update!
Finally made my start on my new website :)
I signed up on 10/11/2020. I can't believe it took me this long to find neocities. What a great place! I'm happy to be here.
